The deadline for filing a property tax protest is midnight at May 15th. You can efile your protest at the website for your county tax accessor. County offices are not having office visits for the purpose of protests due to Covid 19 at this time. Remember deadline is just to file your intent to protest. You do not need to have everything ready for the actual protest.
Please remember the following:
- Be sure to check the box requesting the homes that the assessor is utilizing to determine value. This will help with the protest. Often these properties are not similar to yours and therefore not good to utilize in determining value.
- The condition of your home is very relevant in value. If your home needs repairs, such as a roof, exterior paint, etc. You can use this in your protest. You will need an estimate signed by a legitimate tradesman (roofer, painter, etc.).
- Tax value does not equate with market value. It is ok to protest the assessed value to lower your tax. When you sell the property, we utilize the sale prices of comparable homes. We do not use tax assessed value.
Thank you for your patronage in the past. Please consider referring your family, friends and coworkers to me for their real estate needs. I promise to take great care of them.
